Alfred’s People

Alfred Mavers was a keen observer of society whether at home in Lehtre, Germany or travelling to other European countries like Italy and Spain. Alfred’s paintings are peopled with figures that express emotions and suggest lives that are varied and complex. The identity of each individual whether sitting for a portrait or captured unaware is distinct and full of meaning. The Expressionism that characterized Alfred’s approach to painting resulted in works of art that are full of feeling and continue to speak to us through time. Here is a selection of “Alfred’s People”, a community made up of family, friends and strangers.
